1. The Alpine Lodge at Gore Mountain

Gore Mountain is widely known as one of the best ski mountains in New York. As the largest ski resort in New York, Gore Mountain boasts four beautiful peaks, 110 awesome ski slopes, and 14 lifts, making it any skier’s dream!

For those reasons, there are quite a few accommodations surrounding Gore Mountain, but The Alpine Lodge may be my favorite. It’s prime location and mid-range prices are two of the most important features.

But, that’s certainly not all The Alpine Lodge has to offer. With wood ceilings and crackling fireplaces, this accommodation completely embodies the cozy, apres-ski vibe.

But unlike many ski cabin-type accommodations, The Alpine Lodge is stocked with all of the latest technology. With Alexa devices and flatscreen TVs in each room, it’s an incredible place to kick back after a wonderful day of skiing.

If you’re not quite ready to tuck in for the night though, there are a few fun, yet casual activities to do around one of the best ski resorts in New York. You could roast marshmallows over a fire pit, play a few games of cornhole, or toss around a few horseshoes.

Last but certainly not least, The Alpine Lodge offers awesome ski & stay packages. So, by staying at The Alpine Lodge and skiing at Gore Mountain, you’ll be able to save some money with a package deal from one of the best ski resorts in upstate New York.

A visit to Whiteface Mountain is one of the best things to do in Lake Placid in winter – and for good reason!

This snow-capped mountain was actually used as the location for the alpine skiing event in the 1980 Olympic games. How cool is that?!

And, now you too get to glide down the same slopes as talented Olympians! Simply put, Whiteface Mountain is one of the best ski mountains in New York.

There are also quite a few different accommodations all around Whiteface Mountain, but the Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa is by far the most luxurious and easily one of the best ski resorts in upstate New York.

While you likely want to spend most of your trip on the slopes, Mirror Lake Inn provides guests with loads of things to do when you want to take a break from winter sports.

After waking up late, you can sip on your morning coffee while looking at views of the frozen Mirror Lake. You may even see people ice skating or playing a pick-up game of ice hockey!

Then, you can head to the spa for a day filled with pampering. Get a massage, manicure, pedicure, or any other treatment you have in mind.

And to finish off your day, you can dine at the award-winning The View Restaurant. Savor dishes like risotto fritters, Faroe Island salmon, and prime beef filet mignon.

And while there aren’t many places to stay around one of the best ski mountains in New York, Red Roof PLUS+ & Suites Malone is great if you’re on a budget.

Hunter Mountain is the closest ski mountain to New York City, so it’s no surprise to find out that thousands of visitors from the Big Apple make their way to this ski area.

And visitors to one of the best ski resorts near NYC can easily spend days skiing down the four towering mountains and 67 thrilling trails.

There are also loads of accommodations to consider when visiting Hunter Mountain. With all of these options, the mid-range Fairlawn Inn has managed to fly under the radar, but it’s a hidden gem among this list of the best ski resorts in New York!

See, the Fairlawn Inn has that cozy, historic vibe that is common with bed and breakfasts in New England. With Victorian-style rooms and clawfoot tubs, the decor will transport you to a different era.

As an added bonus, the Fairlawn Inn is an eco-friendly establishment. With utility conservation, recycling initiatives, and the elimination of harmful chemicals on the property, the Fairlawn Inn – near one of the best ski mountains in New York – treats the earth just as well as it treats its guests.

5. Hunter Mountain Resort at Hunter Mountain

Since Hunter obtain is the closest getaway from the big city, it is very popular. Luckily there are a few options when it comes to really cool ski resorts. Hunter Mountain Resort is another place that really should  be on your list.

One of the best parts about the accommodation here is the cozy condos. I love how romantic they feel if you get there for some quiet time with your significant other. If you are headed there with the family, don’t worry. This works well for families too!

I personally love the spa after a day of hitting the slopes and with the resort you don’t have to go far to enjoy it which in my books is a great plus! And speaking about the slopes, don’t worry if you don’t have your gear. You can rent them at the resort too. Definitely makes traveling easier if you are coming from further off.

Pro tip: Pass holders to the mountain get a 20 per cent discount on the lodgings. So yes! You can expect the place to be filled with regulars who love to ski.

Address: 64 Klein Ave, Hunter, NY 12442, United States

Price: Starts at $199

6. Albergo Allegria at Windham Mountain

Just a few minutes away from Hunter Mountain lies Windham Mountain, which is undoubtedly one of the best ski mountains in New York.

With ski slopes, tubing hills, and snowshoe paths, this vacation destination isn’t just for skiers. All winter sports lovers can enjoy their time at this beautiful mountain.

As an added bonus, Windham Mountain also has the Boot Lab. This unique shop makes customizable ski boots for the best comfort and performance possible. So, if you’re a serious skier, you’ll definitely want to check this gem out!

By far though, the most highly rated accommodation near Windham Mountain is Albergo Allegria. Since it’s a bed and breakfast, you know you’ll feel like a treasured guest. The staff is also happy to help you plan out your trip, give you local tips, and answer all of your questions – easily making this one of the best ski resorts in New York.

In addition to the helpful staff, Albergo Allegria also boasts a wide array of amenities. Every morning, you can wake up and enjoy a lovely breakfast spread, which includes everything from banana bread muffins to frittata trio Pomodoro.

After breakfast, there are loads of things that you can do. Most guests immediately head to the slopes and hang out there all day.

But, if you’re hoping for a cozy day in, you can read a book by the crackling fireplace, watch a movie, snack on some freshly baked cookies, and relax in your private whirlpool spa.

7. The Barrington at Catamount Mountain Resort

Image sourced from Hotels.com.

Catamount Mountain Resort is located right on the border between New York and Massachusetts. Therefore, it’s technically in Massachusetts but I still consider it to be one of the best ski resorts near NYC.

It boasts ski slopes for everyone – from beginners to experts. It even has a double black diamond route, known as the Catapult. Naturally, both states want to lay claim to this awesome skiing destination.

Since Catamount Mountain Resort straddles the line between two states, many of the best places to stay when visiting are actually in Massachusetts, including The Barrington.

It’s a luxurious hotel situated on the Main Street of the little town of Great Barrington. So, in between your days of skiing, you can pop into the cute shops and fantastic restaurants nearby.

But an incredible location certainly isn’t all that The Barrington has to offer. You can enjoy a complimentary breakfast for two, make use of the fantastic Smart TV, or just laze around in your spacious suite after enjoying a day of the best skiing in New York.

Address: 281 Main St 3rd fl, Great Barrington, MA 01230

8. River Run Bed & Breakfast at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center

Image sourced from Hotels.com

Belleayre Mountain Ski Center is just a few minutes away from Hunter Mountain and Windham Mountain.

So, the question becomes, why do visitors choose to go to Belleayre Mountain Ski Center rather than the two more popular ski resorts?

The answer is simple: Belleayre Mountain is smaller, less crowded, and more well-suited for new skiers, easily manking it one of the best ski mountains in New York for beginners.

And if you want to stay close to the slopes, River Run Bed & Breakfast is a fabulous option. Located just five minutes away, this mid-range hotel has everything you need and more.

The first thing you’ll notice when you drive up to River Run Bed & Breakfast is the charming exterior. This large, multi-story home boasts a welcoming front porch, a lovely snow-covered lawn, and pops of deep red accents. And that’s just the start!

Once you get inside River Run Bed & Breakfast, the charm continues. With comfortable beds, stained glass windows, and tasty breakfasts, this wonderful accommodation will truly feel like your home away from home as you enjoy one of the best ski resorts in New York.

Address: 882 Main St, Fleischmanns, NY 12430

Price: Just over $100 per night.

9. The Hilton Garden Inn Danbury near Thunder Ridge Ski Resort

Vibrant lobby of the Hilton Garden Inn in Danbury, CT.
Image sourced from Hotels.com

The good news about Thunder Ridge Ski Resort? It’s a mere two-hour drive from New York City in Patterson and is easily one of the best ski resorts near NYC.

The bad news about Thunder Ridge Ski Resort? It’s not really big and the slopes are definitely not geared towards advanced skiers.

So, unless you’re a brand-new skier or want to take your young children on a quick ski trip from NYC, this probably isn’t one of the best ski resorts in New York for you.

That being said, Thunder Ridge does have 22 trails that will help keep any newbie skiers in your family safe. There’s also a pretty rad terrain park where you can do a few tricks before spending the night at the Hilton Garden Inn Danbury.

Yeah, there aren’t a ton of great ski resorts in Patterson so your best bet is to stay in nearby Danbury, Connecticut where you can book a swank room at the contemporary Hilton Garden Inn Danbury.

Traditionally appointed rooms here feature custom-made beds, flat-screen TVs with premium channels, and access to a cooked-to-order breakfast in the on-site American restaurant, for an additional fee.

Other on-site facilities include a bar, a convenience store (open 24 hours a day), a fitness center, a heated pool, and the use of a hot tub. Yeah, they had me at hot tub.

Pro Tip: You can easily take a MetroNorth train here from Grand Central since a free shuttle service to the ski area from the Patterson train station is included with th purchase of a Thunder Ski Package.

Address: 119 Mill Plain Rd, Danbury, CT 06811

Price: Under $125 per night.

Best Ski Resorts in New York – The Finger Lakes Region

10. Hope Lake Lodge at Greek Peak Mountain Resort

Image sourced from Hotels.com.

Next, there’s the Greek Peak Mountain Resort. This particular spot belongs on the list of the best ski resorts in New York, because it has something for everyone.

There are 56 trails for alpine skiers and an area with nine miles of cross-country skiing. On top of that, there are also four terrain parks, where advanced skiers and snowboarders can practice all of their cool tricks.

However, even if you’re not much of a skier, Greek Peak Mountain Resort is still ready for you! Because with designated tubing, snowshoeing, and even ziplining areas, there’s no shortage of fun to be had at one of the best ski mountains in New York!

Now, if you’re looking for a place to stay near Greek Peak Mountain Resort, Hope Lake Lodge is just at the base of the mountain.

As a matter of fact, its prime location is one of the main reasons that Hope Lake Lodge is the preferred place to stay near Greek Peak Mountain Resort.

The main perk of the Hope Lake Lodge is the Cascades Indoor Waterpark. Yes, you read that right!

Even in the winter, Hope Lake Lodge gives guests access to an indoor waterpark that stays at a warm 84 degrees Fahrenheit all year round! So if you need a break from the slopes, you can head to the exciting water slides instead at one of the best ski resorts in upstate New York.

And while the indoor waterpark is the most popular amenity, it’s certainly not the only one offered at Hope Lake Lodge.

During your time at this amazing mid-range accommodation, you can also warm up at the towering stone fireplace in the lobby, entertain your little ones with games at the Bearfoot Den, and get some much-needed rest on the high-quality mattresses.

Address: 2177 Clute Rd, Cortland, NY 13045

Price: Around $150 per night.

11. The Lake House at Canandaigua at Bristol Mountain

Light and airy rooms inside the Lake House at Canandaigua at Bristol Mountain. Easily one of the best ski resorts in New York.
Image sourced from Hotels.com.

Out of all of the best ski mountains in New York, Bristol Mountain holds the special title of the greatest vertical drop, at a whopping 1,200 feet!

And with a high-speed lift system, you can make the most of your time at this cool destination.

As an added bonus, Bristol Mountain also hosts many activities that are great for skiers and snowboarders alike. So, keep an eye on the calendar, because you don’t want to miss a cool event!

However, there are shockingly few accommodations near Bristol Mountain, despite the fact that it’s home to one of the best ski resorts in New York.

So, rather than skiing in and out, you’ll have to drive about twenty minutes to half an hour to find great places to stay. My recommendation is The Lake House on Canandaigua.

Given that The Lake House on Canandaigua sits on a gorgeous lake, it’s no surprise to find out that this hotel’s most popular season is summer.

After all, who wouldn’t want to sit on their balcony, sip on a cup of coffee, and take in the stunning lake views?

That said, The Lake House on Canandaigua is still a wonderful place to stay in the winter – and odds are, the rates at this luxurious accommodation will be slightly cheaper at that time of year as well.

The amenities at one of the best ski resorts in upstate New York are also top-notch. Therefore, you can enjoy a relaxing yoga class, get pampered at the Willowbrook Spa, dine on the seasonal dishes at Rose Tavern, and sip on a tasty drink at the Sand Bar.

Address: 770 S Main St, Canandaigua, NY 14424

Price: A little over $200 per night.

12. The Inn at Holiday Valley at Holiday Valley

The quaint lobby of the Inn at Holiday Valley. Home to some of the best skiing in New York.
Image sourced from Hotels.com.

No list of the best ski resorts in New York would be complete without Holiday Valley! In fact, this particular ski spot is a little smaller than the others on this list.

But, it’s still worth a visit. Now, given that the closest town is Ellicottville, visitors to Holiday Valley will get to experience the area’s small-town charm.

Undoubtedly, the best place to stay at Holiday Valley is the Inn at Holiday Valley. With rave reviews, ski-in/ski-out access, and a free fabulous breakfast, this mid-range inn provides guests with everything they could need and more!

One of the coolest perks at the Inn at Holiday Valley is the ability to rent equipment ahead of time. So, instead of scrambling to get everything ready for your ski day on one of the best ski mountains in New York, the inn will prepare all of your ski equipment for you ahead of time!

All you have to do is fill out a quick form at the front desk.

Address: 6081 US-219, Ellicottville, NY 14731

Price: Around $150 per night.

13. Fairway Suites at Peek’n Peak Ski Resort

The living room of a suite at Fairway Suites, one of the best ski resorts near NYC.
Image sourced from Hotels.com.

Just a hoot and holler down the road from Eerie, Pennsylvania is Peek’n Peak ski resort.

It’s easily one of the best ski resorts in New York since this oasis of skiing awesomeness features a 400-vertical drop among its more than 160-acres of terrain.

So, get ready to enjoy some of the best skiing in New York on five terrain parks that include things like rails and jumps on more than 26 different named runs – many of which receive more than 15-feet of snow annually as the result of lake-effect snow from Lake Eerie.

However, if you’re not a big skier, you can always make use of their super cool tubing park, which includes a huge chute that you can slide down while listening to intoxicating dance music in the evenings.

Afterward, relax in a glorious room at the Fairway Suites at Peek’n Peak.

After all, this well-reviewed, reasonably priced, high-end property sits at the base of the mountain and features modern suites with amenities like WIFI, flat-screen TVs, kitchenettes, ski lockers, and more.

Parking on-site is also free, and guests can access one of two on-site golf courses, a fitness center, and use a lovely, outdoor pool – obviously not in the winter though if you’re searching out the best ski resorts in New York.

Address: 1433 Conway Rd, Clymer, NY 14724

Price: Just over $100 per night.

Other Best Ski Resorts Near NYC

14. Camelback Mountain Resort, Tannersville, PA

Interior of the suites at Camelback Mountain Resort, one of the best ski resorts near NYC.
Image sourced from Hotels.com.

Located just two hours from New York City in the Poconos, Camelback Mountain resort is without a doubt one of the all-time best ski resorts near NYC.

Now is it one of the more challenging mountains on this list of the best ski resorts in New York? No, not really. Especially since there are only 8 difficult runs here that are short and often crowded AF.

But, what the trails lack in difficulty they make up for with variety since there are more than 34 trails covered in man-made snow.

First-time skiers will also love the Learn to Ski Package, which includes a 90-minute lesson, a lift ticket, and rentals, all for between $100 and $139 per person.

Afterward, beginners can make use of 13 easy green runs or try snowboarding in the 20-acre terrain park with a 50-square-foot airbag (perfect for tricks).

Finally, once you’ve skied until you can ski no more, spend the night at Camelback Lodge and Waterpark. Guests here are just 3 miles from Camelback Mountain and will love chic, well-appointed suites with flat-screen TVs and spacious sitting areas.

Another perk of staying here is that you get complimentary dining at one of 5 restaurants and 2 bars at a sister property and can make use of the indoor waterpark/spa, indoor adventure center with a ropes course, laser tag, and mini-golf – making this one of the best ski resorts in New York for families.

Address: 193 Resort Dr, Tannersville, PA 18372

Price: Rooms start at around $225 each.

15. Alpine Haus Bed and breakfast Inn at Mountain Creek, Vernon, NJ

Beige exterior of the Alpine Haus Bed and breakfast Inn in New Jersey, one of the best ski resorts near NYC.

This is another one of the best ski resorts near NYC that is not actually located in New York.

In fact, the Mountain Creek Resort is just two hours away from the city and is known for being New Jersey’s single largest ski area, with four different peaks and three different terrain parks that contain 46 trails suited for skiers of varying skill levels.

So, if you want to visit this ski resort for yourself, just hop aboard the NYC SnowBus. It departs from Union Square and will take you directly to Mountain Creek.

Once there, you can enjoy all the man-made snow here before checking out a super cool zipline tour that will take you more than 2,000 feet in the air.

Afterward, spend a relaxing night in the Alpine Haus Bed and Breakfast Inn. It’s a mere five-minute walk from the resort and sits inside a gorgeous historic home from 1885.

Rooms here are light and airy and include free WIFI, four-poster beds, flat-screen TVs, and fireplaces/whirlpool tubs in suites.

A gourmet, homemade breakfast is also included with the price of your stay, as is access to a communal fireplace and spacious porch.

Address: 217 NJ-94, Vernon Township, NJ 07462

Price: Around $150 per night.

16. Hotel on North at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, Pittsfield, MA

Posh sitting area and lobby of the Hotel on North in Pittsfield, MA.
Image sourced from Hotels.com.

Last, but certainly not least is another one of the best ski resorts near NYC that is not actually in New York.

Yeah, Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort sits just three hours away from New York City in good old Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

And trust me, you’re gonna love it here since it is actually one of the largest ski resorts in all of New England, with more than 45 trails and 9 different lifts for you to use.

Plus, all of the trails here are exceptionally well-maintained and feature a vertical rise of 1,150 feet. You’ll also love that this is one of the more “green” establishments on this list of the best ski resorts in New York since the facility is partially powered by a giant wind turbine near the top of the mountain.

Now, once you’ve shredded powder until you can shred no more, grab dinner at the District Kitchen & Bar (nice little gastropub with smoked gouda mac and cheese and blueberry cream puffs) before swan diving into bed at the Hotel on North.

It’s a snazzy boutique hotel with contemporary rooms that are individually decorated with flat-screen TVs, WIFI, and basically anything else you might want for a comfy stay.

Guests at Hotel on North also get a free hot drink in the AM and access to the gym as well as a lovely atrium, an art gallery, and an onsite restaurant/bar.

Address: 297 North St, Pittsfield, MA 01201

Price: Less than $125 per night.
